Trim Levels (Exterior)

For 2018, Toyota offers seven trim levels. Before you get overwhelmed by choice, know that this number includes three trim levels for the hybrid engine version. The gasoline model trim levels are the XLE, XSE, Touring, and Limited. For the hybrid version, Toyota drops the Touring model. A nicely appointed XLE with the gasoline engine starts at $35,500 MSRP. A hybrid with the same trim has an MSRP of $36,500. At the top of the range, the Limited starts at $41,800 MSRP. Swapping in the hybrid system on this model adds $1,000 to the starting price.

Engine (Power)

Two engine options are available on the 2018 Avalon. The 3.5-liter V-6 delivers 301 horsepower. Equipped with new technology including Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide and a direct-shift 8-speed automatic transmission, the Avalon ups the game on power and efficiency. For the even more fuel conscious driver, the Avalon also offers a 2.5-liter dynamic force engine paired with two electric motors that can achieve up to 44 mpg.

Performance

All Avalon models, hybrid and standard, are front wheel drive. The V-6 motor offers a powerful yet smooth driving experience. Even with all that power, Avalons equipped with this engine achieve an estimated 26 mpg combined. Another thing you'll notice immediately when driving the Avalon is how quiet it is. Toyota designers have taken great steps to make the ride comfortable and serene. Vents on the sides of the front bumper, plus optional rear diffuser and underbody panels, reduce the coefficient of drag, resulting in less wind noise. The Touring model also offers Adaptive Variable Suspension, which creates damping adjustments to smooth out the ride.

Interior

On the inside of Avalon, you'll find a comfortable, well-appointed and technologically advanced car. There is plenty of space to seat five passengers quite comfortably. The XLE and XSE offer heated power SofTex trimmed seats in the front. Going the with Touring or Limited trim level will having you sitting in leather-trimmed heated and ventilated driver and passenger seats.
