When you’re in need of a snack, whether it’s a breakfast bite or a filling lunch on the go, West Islip has a great choice of sandwich and bagel shops. Here are some of the best in the area.

Higbie Bagels

The family-owned and operated Higbie Bagels, on Higbie Lane, has been in business for more than 30 years, apart from being closed for a while after an unfortunate incident with a Maserati! For breakfast, the fresh kettle-cooked bagels are served with an array of cream cheese or a variety of savory and sweet fillings.

The lunch menu features signature sandwiches such as the Hig-Beef Sandwich, the Hig-B.L.T., Chicken Mediterranean, and the Veggie Deluxe. They can be served in a wrap, roll, hero, or bagel. Their other freshly-baked treats include muffins, brownies, donuts, and croissants.

Home Town Heroes

Also located on Higbie Lane is Home Town Heroes sandwich shop. The first thing you’ll notice is the awesome artwork on the wall outside, it is a 10-foot high mural of the shop’s logo. The owner and staff are super friendly and the service is quick. You can order online or via their app for pickup or delivery.

From the menu, you can order a variety of breakfast fillings on a roll or hero. The lunch and dinner menu has a selection of appetizers and salads, fully-loaded wraps, hot or cold heroes, and a choice of chicken cutlet and grilled chicken dishes.

West Islip Hot Bagels

Located on Hunter Avenue, West Islip Hot Bagels has been family-owned and operated since 1991. You’ll find the staff friendly and helpful as they put together your order. The kettle-boiled bagels are made from scratch on the premises and, as well as the regular ones, they make bialys, bagel twists, mini bagels, cheddar bagels, and French toast bagels.

The breakfast menu offers sandwiches, wraps, and omelets, while for lunch you can build your own wrap, hero, or deli sandwich or choose a freshly-grilled sandwich. You can choose plain, whole wheat, or spinach wraps and they only use the finest cuts of Boar’s Head meats. Also available is a range of Danish pastries, apple turnovers, cookies, muffins, and donuts.

Bagel Buzz

Bagel Buzz can be found in the Captree Village Shopping Center on Union Boulevard and their motto is “more than just bagels”. Unlike many sandwich shops, there is an area where you can sit and eat. The staff is welcoming and treat you like family. The extensive menu features bagels and spreads, breakfast specials from the grill, and breakfast wraps with a great choice of fillings and extras.

For lunch, you can create your own salad, with a choice from more than 35 vegetables, or choose a hot hero or one of the specialty sandwiches on a bagel, roll, or bread. They also serve a variety of hot paninis. To satisfy your sweet tooth, linzer tarts, chocolate chip cookies, and sprinkle cookies are among their baked goods.

At these four locations, you’ll get awesome sandwiches with plenty of filling, so you won’t go hungry.
