The first-generation Toyota Highlander was revealed 20 years ago at the 2000 New York auto show. 20 years later, the 2020 Toyota Highlander is back with a completely new look for its mid-size crossover SUV. The new Highlander sports a curvier, more flexible redesigned exterior with complex detailing.

Toyota sold 243,933 Highlanders last year. With that being said, we believe the 2020 redesign will be a very sought-after model. Here are 10 of the top features for the 2020 Highlander.

1) Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA)Toyota-Logo-Black-and-White

The new, flexible architecture delivers a much smoother ride. This new architecture enhances handling and soundproofing materials help ensure a quiet ride for everyone in the cabin.

2) Infotainment System

In addition to the newly redesigned exterior, the Toyota Highlander desperately needed an interior tech upgrade. Thankfully, Toyota has come through. The 2020 Highlander finally supports Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It also has SiriusXM, Amazon Alexa, an All Access 3-month trial, and much more.

Although the 8-inch touchscreen is the standard option, there is the 12.3-inch touchscreen option as well should you be looking for something bigger. There are 3 USB ports at the front, and two USB ports in the second row so everyone stays connected.

3) Qi Wireless Charging

Not to be left out of the infotainment system, the center console comes with a wireless charger for your Qi-compatible smartphone devices. Simply place your device in the center console for worry-free wireless charging.

4) Heated and Ventilated Front Seats

Seats that warm-up or cool down at the touch of a button. Heated second-row seats will also help to keep passengers warm.

5) Third Row Seating

Boasting an extra 2.4-inches of overall length, the 2020 Highlander seats 8 people comfortably with 3 rows of seating and extra legroom in its roomy new interior.

6) Panoramic Moonroof

The panoramic moonroof has front power tilt and slide features. You can open it up for a nice view or use the power-retractable sunshade to get some relief on a sunny day.

7) Digital Rear-View Window

Using a camera mounted inside the rear window, the Highlander allows you to be able to have a wider field of vision.

8) Standard Safety Features

Many automotive companies offer advanced safety features these days; few make them standard in base-level models. With the 2020 Highlander, adaptive cruise control with steering assist, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and blind-spot monitoring now come as standard.

9) Pre-Collision System With Pedestrian Detection (PCS with PD)

Just mentioned above, the PCS with lowlight PD was designed with safety in mind. It can detect other vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians in certain settings.

The lowlight PD system is the latest in the new technology, with the ability to warn the driver by sending audio and visual cues if an accident with a pedestrian is about to occur. Even going as far as to have automatic emergency braking assist should you fail to react. This is done by combining a shape recognition camera and millimeter-wave radar.

10) Blind Spot Monitor (BSM)

Also mentioned above, the BSM is to alert the driver when a vehicle on either side is approaching the vehicle’s blind spot. Rear-Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) is available for detecting vehicles approaching the blind spots while the Highlander is in reverse. Should a vehicle approach, the side mirror indicators will light up and a warning tone will be sounded.
