Life is hectic, and it’s easy to neglect your Toyota maintenance to give yourself a little more time. Although it’s crucial that you prioritize your mental health, you should not neglect the maintenance of your Toyota. Today, we’re revealing four top tips on how to keep your Toyota running smoothly for decades to come.

1. Regular Oil Changes Are Crucial

There are many reasons why people buy Toyotas. Some like their body styles. Some like their interior comfort. However, the most common reason why people buy Toyotas is their reliability. Unfortunately, they only continue to run smoothly for decades when they receive proper maintenance.

To keep your Toyota running smoothly for years, do not neglect regular oil changes. When you don’t change your oil and oil filter regularly, dirt can corrode the motor, reducing its useful life. Though Toyota motors aren’t expensive, you don’t want your motor to fail sooner than it has to, and you don’t want to fill up your fuel tank more often than you have to due to poor engine lubrication resulting in impaired fuel economy.

2. Check Your Tire Pressure

Another easy way to ensure fuel efficiency and long vehicle life is to check your tire pressure regularly. Keeping your tires at the pressure recommended on the sidewall ensures that you will get the most fuel efficiency possible and your tires will last longer. We recommend buying a tire gauge and checking your tire pressure every Monday morning before you go to work. The last thing you need is to have your tire blow on the way to work.

If you notice one of your tires is leaking regularly, schedule a service appointment at your local Toyota dealer right away. If only one tire has pressure issues, your car can become misaligned very quickly. Also, make sure you check the pressure of your spare tire regularly. You don’t want to change your tire on the side of the road only to find that the spare is flat.

3. Get Your Tires Rotated

Although checking your tire pressure weekly mitigates the risk of your tires wearing unevenly, it doesn’t eliminate the risk completely. To extend the useful life of your vehicle, we strongly recommend that you get your tires rotated by a professional every 5,000 to 8,000 miles. During this appointment, you should also have your tire balance checked. Make sure your alignment is tested every third tire rotation, too.

4. Don’t Neglect Your Warning Lights

The fourth most important thing to do that ensures a long-lasting Toyota is noticing your warning lights. If you’re not familiar with the light that appears on your dash, pull over and read your owner’s manual. You may need a tow to your local Toyota dealership for an inspection.
