The Toyota Supra is back with the all-new 2020 GR Supra due for imminent release after more than a two-decade hiatus. The new model carries forward the heritage of the marque with its stunning, sporting looks and track-bred performance.

Exterior Styling

The GR Supra expresses pure performance with its sensual teardrop design. Each panel is engineered to aid the aerodynamic airflow over the body. Cooling air is channeled to the engine through the low, wide grille intakes. The double-bubble roof design reduces exterior drag while also increasing the interior headroom.

The bulging rear fenders improve the flow of air, while the dramatically styled flared rear spoiler reduces body lift to keep the car firmly on the road at high speeds. The six-lens LED jewel-like headlights and signature front and rear lighting create a distinctive look wherever the Supra arrives.

Interior Design

The low center of gravity and wide door sills make for a challenging entry into the two-seat cockpit, but the Supra’s chief engineer stated that the gain in performance is worth the minor inconvenience. The race-inspired sports seats are designed to hold the driver and passenger in place whether you’re doing the daily commute or performing some high-speed cornering on the track.

Once you’re in the driver’s seat, in front of you is the easy-to-read high-definition color gauge cluster display with the large central tachometer. A full-color head-up display is available that projects vital information onto the windshield. Climate controls are positioned for ease of operation without the driver taking his or her eyes off the road.

Power and Performance

Under the hood, the Supra features a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine. It delivers 335 horsepower and 365 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. This Supra can take you from zero to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph.

The engine has been positioned as low and as far back as possible to create a 50:50 weight distribution and to optimize the center of gravity. Performance is enhanced by the rigid chassis design, adaptive suspension, an active differential, and large Brembo brakes giving the driver total control.

Driving Experience

The Supra offers Normal and Sport driving modes. Track driving capability is enhanced by Sport Mode, which reduces the intervention of the stability and traction control systems as well as providing slicker gear shifts, giving more weight to the steering, and sharpening the response of the throttle for ultimate driver control.

To enable the maximum momentum for cornering, the active differential controls lateral torque distribution using an electric motor and multi-plate clutches. Damping force instantly adjusts to road conditions and driver input using the standard adaptive variable suspension system. The 19-inch forged alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, with the wider rear tires providing enhanced grip.

The 2020 GR Supra is a pure driver’s car — beautiful to look at, perfectly balanced, and exhilarating to drive. Look out for its arrival at Atlantic Toyota.
