The great 2014 jack o'lantern display.Halloween is a fun time for both young and old. This time of year, there is always something to do, whether you are looking for a good scare or a family friendly event. Here are three Halloween events that you can check out around West Islip, New York.

1. West Islip Public Library’s Kids’ Haunted House

There will be a haunted house held at the West Islip Public Library on Saturday, October 27. For younger children, there will be a not-so-spooky house, which you can visit between noon and 1 p.m. If you want a little more of a thrill, visit between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and check out the real haunted house. The haunted house is in WI-Community Room D and is not for the timid. Free tickets are available starting Monday, October 8 at the circulation desk. The library is located at 3 Higbie Lane, West Islip. Don’t forget your costume!

2. Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns

This family-friendly event will be held at Westbury Gardens. There will be 5,000 hand-carved illuminated jack o’lanterns and life-sized sculptures on display. From a 40-foot long dragon to a life-size fire-truck, these pumpkins are sure to impress. At Rise of the Jack O ‘Lanterns, you will also find over five dozen pumpkins that are over 100 pounds, as well as 5,000 fresh pumpkins that are carved each week. There will also be 3D sculpted pumpkins and live carving demonstrations. While you’re there, you can also stop by the Jack O’Lantern Cafe for some baked goods and sip hot apple cider from Jericho Cider Mill.

The event will be held every weekend in October. Tickets cost $26 for an adult and $22 for a child and are only available online. Children ages 2 and under are free. When you purchase a ticket, you are required to pick a time slot. Times range between 6 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns is located at 71 Old Westbury Road, Old Westbury, New York.

3. Chamber of Horrors NY

The Chamber of Horrors NY is considered one of New York’s top haunted house events and is the largest indoor haunted attraction in Long Island. There are three haunted attractions, including Dead End Breakfast, Industrial Laughter, and Carnage. The Board Room is a stage show that will put the audience in the middle of the chaos of the three different haunted houses, explaining the backstories and characters of each. There are gory visuals and intense sound and special effects during this live show.

General Admission is $35 while the R.I.P. Pass, which allows you to skip the line, is $45. The event runs weekends starting September 28 and every day October 26-28, 30, and 31. The Chamber of Horrors is located at 1745 Express Drive North, Hauppauge, New York.
